Klar med popcorn? For Apple er App Tracking Transparency (ATT) ikke bare en feature, men et prestigeprojekt, der gør det lettere at sove om natten – i hvert fald for ledelsen i Cupertino. Men i Tyskland er nattesøvnen ikke helt så rolig, for de tyske myndigheder er i fuld gang med at dissekere, om Apples privatlivsstrategi nu også handler om brukerens ve og vel, eller måske lidt mere om Apples magt over markedet.
Federal Cartel Office i Tyskland har nemlig fået nok af Apples one-man-show. Siden 2022 har bureauet gransket, hvordan ATT har gjort det nærmest umuligt for app-udviklere og annoncører at få adgang til brugerdata. Det er selvfølgelig guf for privacy-fetichisterne, men mindre sødt for dem, der lever af målrettede annoncer.
Apple har i vanlig stil reageret med en serie af foreslåede justeringer: Den berygtede consent-pop-up får nyt, harmonisk design – samme tekst, samme formatering, uanset om det gælder Apples egne tjenester eller tredjeparts apps. Og det er ikke alt: Processen skal gøres lettere, så udviklere ikke længere skal krølle sig sammen for at få adgang til brugernes reklamepræferencer.
Tyske myndigheder samler nu feedback fra mediegrupper, publishere og ikke mindst de regulerende instanser. Spørgsmålet? Om Apple nu redder privatlivet på bekostning af fair konkurrence.
- ATT blev introduceret i 2021 – og alle med en iPhone eller iPad har mærket, at apps konstant spørger om lov til at tracke på kryds og tværs.
- Nyheden om mulige ændringer kommer efter en februarbeslutning, hvor Apple blev beskyldt for at give sig selv en unfair fordel i annoncemarkedet.
- Hvis Tyskland ikke godkender Apples ændringer, truer Apple med at droppe ATT i hele EU – og skyder skylden på italienske og tyske lobbyister. Skakmat, privacy!
For de datagale annoncører er ATT stadig en hovedpine. Vil de foreslåede designændringer gøre det lettere at få de nødvendige permissions fra brugerne? Måske. Vil Apple stadig styre, hvem der får adgang til data? Selvfølgelig.
